THE DIARIES: GAGA+FARROW

Posted by urbanfeed On March - 29 - 2010

gaga We all know that Lady Gaga’s fashion sense is one to be noticed, it’s only right that she comes out with a line of her own. Farrow is a London-based brand–whose collaborators include The Row, Alexander Wang and Dries Van Noten–recently teamed up with singer Róisín Murphy. It is no surprise that there are talks about Gaga teaming up to create a sunglasses collection. Hopefully they seal the deal and make it happen, this is something that we all will look forward to as summer quickly approaches.

THE FEATURE: HIGH HEEL LOVE

Posted by urbanfeed On March - 29 - 2010

FASHION WRITER ISOKE DAVIS, GIVES AN EDITORIAL ABOUT THE NEW PHASE OF THE KITTEN HEEL!

ChristianLouboutin.ADRussoYesterday, I cried. Long sobs of denial and rebellion rang through my body as I read that the platform had died. The reign of the six-inch sky highs had finally ended, and in its place, a shorter stubbier shoe would rule supreme. At a time when things are so shaky, isn’t it better to keep your feet firmly planted to the ground? Girls everywhere are falling for the practicality of a low heel or none existent heel. Who wouldn’t love the run from class to your internship or job without the inconvenience of hailing a cab or discreetly slipping your heel out on the metro ride? And, if you’re someone’s grandma you can run right to pick up your new tan orthopedics and Dr.Schouls in-soles from the nearest Wal-Greens.

Girls please! If the sky is the limit wouldn’t six inches up provide great morale to keep on reaching? Ready to wear for Spring 2010 brought us low heeled sandals paired with socks, one-inch kitten heels, and leveled straw wedges. I’ve never been more depressed. Seriously, have you seen what a good six inches can do for the leg? Higher heels give the impression of height, and the impression of height takes away at most two or three pounds. And as the runway trickles down to the department stores and malls of mass production, five foot three, one hundred and thirty five pound girls will soon forget also, in effort of keeping up with the trends. I urge them and scream from this keyboard, “Remember!” “Please, please remember what they did for you!”
There is not a single reshaper as useful and multifaceted as the six-inch plat form. Apparently this struggle of power has been going on forever. In fact, in June 2009 Andre Leon Talley challenged designers “to stop the madness and dream up a new way to define your silhouette!” And designers followed suite. Note the aforementioned runway looks. When Andre calls, one takes heed.

However, understand that it’s about being impeccably dressed at the right moment, in the right place, and in what makes YOU look your best. Girls with needle thiProxy-Connection: keep-alive

legs should absolutely strap those kitten heels as a boy would strap on the coveted Air Forces and jump! Jump for the sky and trust that you will land with your feet firmly planted on the ground. After all you were only one inch off it to begin with. For the rest of us, go for that hidden platform and you keep those six inches; you’re almost touching the sky
